Who is behind the camera?

Caitlen Cameron
Born and raised in a quiet rural town, I strive to express any amount of wistful imagination and wonderment in my photography. No matter if the frame is a once in a lifetime event or an everyday commodity.
I currently have been shooting for over seven years with local companies, media outlets and private commissions. These prospects have taken me around the world, which have made me grateful for every photo and opportunity to share the experience. While I will never be perfect, I aim to exhibit growth and improvement each day in my career.
Even though I have an alliterative name, I am certainly no superhero.
The Beginning
Fresh out of High school Journalism class, I had a hankering for ways I could reach my community and meet them along the way. This led to me being a correspondent for 3 years. I started out with a small Goodwill digital camera and worked my way up to Nikon Coolpix P900. The photos at this time may have not been the clearest in grain quality but, they were the clearest in emotion. As a reporter, you are the gateway to experience an event of the past. The photos or story you record provide an eternal account of history.

Social Media and Business
Once I learned the yearly cycles of my local newspaper, I wanted the ability to cover new areas of the world. Without a dive into the sea of social media, I would never be able to break into the mold of what was new or exciting. Thus, I began a path to offering my photography to small businesses and nonprofits to raise their presence and mine. The photos below are from a local brewery collaboration.
Location Studies
Once experience was developed from social media and reporting, an opportunity arose to study overseas in Europe. The time was spent as an immersive experience with people, architecture and atmosphere in a land that most only dream about. The primary location of study was the city of Viterbo in western Italy. The country is known for its luxurious living, but my photos found more comfort in the Tuscan hues and rustic everyday lifestyle.

The Women of VGC
Upon returning, I found I have a passion for story telling outside of photography and a written story. This passion led to a collaboration with the Shaker Heights Historical Society and The Village Garden Club. Over the summer of 2021, members of the group shared their stories and lifetimes as an oral history format. I invite you to listen with the link to the right.
